Corrections policy

How to report an error in a Redline News story, what the desk does about it, and why corrections stay published on the story.

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, the correction is published on the story itself and stays there. We do not quietly edit an error away and leave no trace of it.

How to report an error

Write to the desk at theredlinenews@gmail.com with the headline or link, the specific claim you believe is wrong, and if possible the source that shows the correct position. Every message is read.

What happens next

  • We check the claim against the original source material.
  • If the claim is wrong, the story is corrected and a correction notice is added to it, describing what was wrong, what it now says, and when it was changed.
  • If a headline was materially wrong, the correction notice says so, because a headline travels further than the story.
  • If the claim turns out to be right as published, we reply explaining what it rests on.

Corrections against clarifications

A correction is issued when we published something factually incorrect. A clarification is issued when what we published was accurate but capable of being read the wrong way. Both are shown on the story. Neither is hidden at the foot of a separate page.

Removal requests

We do not remove accurate reporting on request. We will consider removal or anonymisation where publication creates a genuine, current risk to someone safety, or where we are legally required to act.
