Marvel Studios has confirmed the cast of its X-Men reboot at the D23 fan event in Anaheim, ending months of speculation and setting a cinema release for 5 May 2028.

Studio president Kevin Feige brought the actors onstage individually alongside director Jake Schreier. Adam Driver appeared by video to confirm he plays the villain.

Sadie Sink, who debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, was joined onstage by Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm.

Driver revealed in a video message that he plays Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister, after initially joking that he would be Magneto. Feige said further casting would follow.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, who made Thunderbolts, and is scheduled for cinema release on 5 May 2028. It will be the first X-Men film produced under the Marvel Studios banner since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, and follows Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. What was reported in advance?

Connor’s casting as Cyclops was reported by Deadline the week before and carried by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, though Marvel had not confirmed it and accounts differed on whether he was signed or in talks. Weaving’s casting as Emma Frost had also been reported beforehand.

Sink was the only member already confirmed on screen, having appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, now the highest-grossing release of 2026. Abbott, Navarrette and Boyd had not been reported.

Where does it sit in the schedule?

This is the first X-Men film made under Marvel Studios since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019. The Fox series ran from 2000 to 2019 across thirteen films with Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry among its leads.

It arrives after Avengers: Doomsday in December and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Schreier previously directed Thunderbolts.
