Who has the best record in MLB?

As of 10 August 2026, the Milwaukee Brewers hold the best record in Major League Baseball at 74 wins and 44 losses, leading the National League Central. The Tampa Bay Rays lead the American League at 71-46 and top the AL East. The Atlanta Braves are 71-47 in the NL East and the Los Angeles Dodgers 70-48 in the NL West. The Chicago Cubs, second in the NL Central at 69-50, would occupy a wild card position. In the American League the Chicago White Sox lead the Central at 61-56 and the Houston Astros the West at 60-59, the narrowest divisional lead in either league. The Los Angeles Angels hold the worst record in baseball at 45-73, with the Colorado Rockies at 46-72 and the Athletics at 47-71.

Where are the races tightest?

The American League West is the closest division in baseball. Houston lead at 60-59, one game above .500, with Texas at 59-59 half a game behind and Seattle at 56-63.

The AL Central is similarly compressed. The Chicago White Sox lead at 61-56, with Detroit, Minnesota and Cleveland all within three games. Kansas City sit last at 49-70 despite that congestion above them.

Who is out of it?

The Los Angeles Angels have the worst record in baseball at 45-73, ahead of Colorado at 46-72 and the Athletics at 47-71. San Francisco, at 49-69, have fallen well behind in a National League West where three teams are above .500.

The New York Mets, at 52-67, are last in the NL East, 19 games behind Atlanta.

What comes next

Roughly 44 games remain for most clubs. Milwaukee host San Diego on Tuesday, Atlanta face the Mets, and the Dodgers meet Kansas City.

The Brewers have led the National League for much of the summer without the payroll of the clubs behind them, and the gap between their record and Los Angeles has held at around four games through August.
