The film reached $1bn faster than any release except Avengers: Endgame, and overtook Toy Story 5 as the year’s biggest earner.

Deadline reported the film was the fastest to reach $400m domestically, doing so in four days, and recorded the biggest Monday in domestic history with $47m.
Its $72m in Thursday previews and $168m opening Friday were both records. Its $101.5m Saturday was the second-largest single Saturday recorded.

Weekday takings have held unusually well. The film’s Tuesday gross exceeded the opening Tuesday of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which took $39.2m on its first Tuesday in 2019, and the pattern of a slow decline rather than a sharp fall after a record opening is what drives the largest final totals.
Analysts differ on where it finishes. Forecasts published this week put the eventual worldwide gross anywhere between roughly $1.5bn and figures approaching $2bn, with the spread depending almost entirely on how steeply attendance falls after the second weekend.
The film also gains IMAX screens this weekend, having opened without them because those auditoriums were committed to The Odyssey.
